Experiences Across Multiple Screens
Wednesday October 7 at 09:30AM
Learn how the Adobe Flash Platform enables multiscreen delivery of applications, from the biggest screen to the smallest device. In this session, you’ll find out how to leverage the consistency of the Flash runtime and to develop reusable code and scalable interfaces that are device aware. Come and see many Flash technology enabled devices in action — the Flash runtime on smartphones, Internet-enabled media tablets, MIDs, Chumby, game consoles, and more.

Don’t forget the Adobe MAX hashtag #adobemax

And my session hashtag of #adobemax149

There’s going to be a lot of excitement this year at MAX, and if you can’t make it you don’t have to worry, all sessions will be recorded and made available online, but better yet, the keynotes will be streamed LIVE. Register now at http://max.adobe.com/online/

I’m really excited that I have the opportunity to present again at Adobe MAX, this time in Los Angeles!

I thought it was about time that I too did a wrap on MAX 2005. So here goes …

What an experience! Having only been in the industry for 2 years since graduation, I never really understood the scale of such an event. With approximately 3000 attendees, this made for one massive Macromedia party … er umm, I mean a great forum for learning and discussion :-p

My main focus for the conference was to attend as many ZMZ (Zorn-Mistral-Zaphod) sessions as I could squeeze in. Starting with Steven Webster and Alistair McLeod‘s session on Flex Frameworks, there was a certain buzz in the air, you could almost hear the crowd chanting “Flex, Flex, Flex …”. Moving on to Next Generation Flash Player with Gary Grossman I could then understand the hard work that has been put in to make the current and future release Flash Players the best ever. The future of the Flash Platform is looking very exciting!

My favourite session was Next Generation Flex: Data Services presented by the all powerful Christophe Coenraets. The wow factor was there, as well as the ease of use and minimal coding involved. The Flex data services engineering team have really earnt their bread here. The new publish/subscribe messaging service, data synchronization, and local persistence for offline data access will really open the doors for new categories of Rich Internet Applications.

Without getting into too much detail on the sessions I attented, I’m sure most of you read MXNA and have a pretty good understanding af what happended over the 4 days.

Of most importance to me, especially being a new employee with Macromedia, was the opportunity to meet so many of the great staff and engineers, and of course to meet the customers who make the products what they are today. JD offers a great thankyou over at his blog.

As for post conference, download the Flex Builder 2 Alpha at Macromedia Labs and join in your local and online community. There is an abundance of information available but be sure to check out the Flexcoders Mailing List.

Was great to meet you all! Keep up the good work

The MAX sneak peeks showcased some new technologies and ideas from the Macromedia Engineering team – but with an Australian theme! Well not quite Australian but more Steve Irwin, but hey, it was a good laugh seeing Matt Chotin and Todd Rein with their fantastic Australian accents.

Check out the flash video of their act over at Mark Blair’s blog. Quite a laugh!

For a more detailed outline Jen deHann has covered the sneak peeks with a pretty comprehensive set of notes (from Sean Corfield)

I just spent the last hour in a session with Gary Grossman who gave a great overview of the new features and changes with Actionscript 3.0 and the API. The biggest points imho were the runtime error reporting, more strongly typed and standards compliant AS language, and most importantly the dramatic increase in performance. Many of you may have heard about E4X, and now it is here Such a nice way to code a read XML code on the fly, and treat it like xpath. Very neat.

Also of note was a light weight class which drops the concept of the timeline from the MovieClip class. The Sprite class is a nice light weight object for creating visual components that don’t need the timeline.

For more on Actionscript 3.0 namespaces see this post over at Blairs Blog.

Hmm .. what else. There was so much to cover that I’m sure I missed something but keep an eye out on all the other blogs who are covering MAX
